Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors looks on from the bench in Game 3 against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Chase Center on May 10, 2025, in San Francisco.
As the Warriors get closer to the reevaluation point for Steph Curry’s hamstring injury, it seems incredibly unlikely the superstar will be ready to go in Game 5 against the Timberwolves.
Curry suffered the Grade 1 hamstring strain in Game 1 of the postseason series against the Wolves last Tuesday and was ruled out for Games 2-4 the next day. The team did not say anything official about Game 5, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
But while not officially out, all signs have been pointing toward Curry not being ready to go for Game 5. And even after reporting Curry did a pregame workout before Saturday’s Game 3, San Francisco Standard columnist Tim Kawakami relayed what he saw from the shootaround Monday morning.
“Curry wasn’t seen on-court–was giving Bruce Fraser golf tips. Wasn’t moving great as he walked off,” Kawakami wrote on social media.
It’s a noteworthy change from the shootaround prior to Game 2, when Curry was rebounding for some of his teammates. As Kawakami wrote on social media and as ESPN’s Shams Charania said on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, everything around Golden State points toward Game 6 being Curry’s earliest possible return to action.
“That’s really the earliest, like, safe, healthy window for them to bring Stephen Curry back from a hamstring strain,” Charania said.
The Warriors have been desperate to grab another win in the three games they knew they were playing without Curry and guarantee they would play Game 6, which wouldn’t be until Sunday because of a scheduling conflict at Chase Center (the Valkyries’ first regular-season game). But after losing the first two, another loss would ratchet up the temptation to have Curry play in Game 5 if Golden State is facing elimination.
It’s why everyone knows the pressure is on for Game 4 on Monday night. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
